What we do
EnergyMobile Studios is an Ottawa-based company devoted to building smart, functional, beautiful apps that simplify and save energy. Founded by energy geek, Tim Johnson, in 2011, EnergyMobile uses emerging mobile technologies to raise awareness and increase energy literacy.
Meet the team
Tim Johnson (Founder & CEO)
With EnergyMobile, Tim combines his two biggest passions: energy conservation and technology. He sets our direction and strategy along with the team and advisors. Tim is also the company barista.
Julian Wood (CTO & Project Manager)
Julian lives and breathes technology. With an MSc in Molecular Genetics and a BSc in Biochemistry, he’s also our resident mad scientist. Julian drives our development and technical strategy.
Suzan Hill (Creative Director)
Sue’s design skills can be seen in all of our products, branding and marketing efforts. She makes our products beautiful, functional and keeps the human aspect of what we do in check.
Patrick McMahon (Dir. Products & Community)
An economics grad, NRCan ENERGY STAR Certified Energy Advisor and real world experience consulting in over 3,000 Canadian homes, Patrick keeps our products accurate, insightful and engaging.
Annie Duchesne (Dir. Research)
Annie double majored in biology and journalism with a minor in music to boot. All that right and left brain talent works wonders at keeping EnergyMobile’s research precise and on-topic.
Darren Peacock (Sr. Mobile Architect)
Darren is our talented lead mobile architect. We just love his precise code. While the rest of us scratch our heads, Darren always finds the right solution and implements it properly the first time.

Rob Woodbridge (President, Untethered Mobile)
Rob has been immersed in the middle of the mobile revolution in roles ranging from strategic advisor, board member and coach to VP Operations and President & CEO. In each of the companies he’s been involved with, he’s helped shape strategy, marketing initiatives and product development to extend existing business into the mobile world. Named the Next Generation CEO for 2009 and Top 40 Under 40 recipient, we are delighted to have Rob’s input as an Advisor and Untethered Mobile as a strategic partner. Rob also writes about the industry and hosts a video blog dedicated to interviews with mobile RockStars Untether.tv
Kevin Monte DeRamos (President KMDR Research)
Kevin has more than 20 years experience in managing energy research for utilities, state energy agencies, and energy service companies crossing all sectors. He recently represented the Ontario Power Authority on Ontario’s Low Income Working Group working with the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure. Kevin has authored over 100 research reports, 30 published articles, and the book Poverty and the Public Utility building shareholder value through low-income initiatives Pennwell, 2005 . Kevin has deep experience in the science of energy education, behavioural modification, data management, energy policy and programs.
Gary L. Hunt (President, Tech & Creative Labs)
Gary is a trusted adviser to Boards and CEOs on energy strategy and technology. His experience includes service as a state utility regulator, utility executive and strategic consultant. Gary is an expert in Energy and Utility strategy, market analysis and portfolio risk. His analytics practice teams provided independent market opinions in project finance transactions valued at $50+ billion on 90,000+MW of power generation assets as Division President at Ventyx, now an ABB Company; as VP, Global Analytics & Data at IHS/CERA and Principal, S&P’s Regional and Energy Economics Practice.
Darren Pye (Co-Founder, CEO Going AFK)
Darren has worked in software development for the past 20 years with roles ranging from developer and team lead, to software architect and director of research and development. Darren has unique utility and energy industry expertise gained with his more than 8 years leading development at NorthStar Utilities Solutions, a division of Harris Computer Systems. While at Harris, he held the positions of Senior Engineer/Team Lead, Director of Research and Development and Senior Software Architect.
